Explaining about the Veena.

As part of Akshar Arbol’s progressive Unit of Learning program, children are to learn about ‘invention and design of structures by various cultures according to their aesthetic values and locally available materials’. How does Music relate to this? Ambalam curated a special visit by esteemed musical instrument maker KARAIKURICHI SUBRAMANIAN to Akshar Arbol on 25th July. Carrying with him the Ghatam, Tambura and Veena, Subramaniam  explained to the young ones how these instruments are made and what they sound like. He explained to the children, among other things, about the wood that goes into the making of these instruments, how the wood is seasoned, how the instruments are fashioned from the wood, and demonstrated what the instrument sounds like .
