As part of Akshar Arbol school’s progressive Unit of Learning based curriculum, the students are required to explore and learn about different subjects such as science, math, design etc. through Music.
On 26th October, the enthusiastic students of Grade 4 and 5 had the opportunity to visit Aura Studios – a professional music recording studio. Grade 4’s Unit of Learning was ‘Use of Scientific principles and technological advancement in the design and construction of buildings and structures’. Grade 5’s UoL was ‘Laws of physics – understanding Forces and Energy’. Therefore it was very apt that they visited a recording studio – a place where music, physics, technology and architecture meet!
The students of Grade 4 were eager and bubbling with enthusiasm on their first field trip to a studio! They were able to learn about the importance of symmetry in the construction and design of a studio for optimal sound transmission, the padding materials such as foam and wood used to line the walls to absorb unwanted frequencies and the ‘diffuser’ structures on the wall to disperse sound equally through the room.
Grade 5 students, having begun learning concepts of Physics in school, came prepared with notes and questions. They learnt and discovered the chain of transmission of energy from the pluck of a string to being stored as data on a computer – Mechanical energy to pluck a string, transforms into sound energy which is then converted into electrical energy through the mic and stored digitally on the computer. They also learnt about the design of a studio, equipments used, recording process and about resonance.
This was a successful field trip for the students and teachers of Akshar Arbol, curated by Ambalam. Ambalam would like to thank Mr.Girinandh, and the staff of Aura Studios for their time and invaluable inputs!
